Dear Members and Followers of Lisbon Players, It is been some time since we have communicated with you and feel it is appropriate to do so near the beginning of a new 2023 season. We have four plays planned for this year. The first in April at the Teatro do Bairro, our 2023 curtain-raiser THE THINGS I KNOW TO BE TRUE has already been announced. We will have a second production at the Teatro Independente Oeiras- a Caryl Churchill play, LOVESICK, later on in the year. For the second half of the year we have a further two plays for which we continue to locate Theatres. We also hope to have our Xmas get together as we did this year and which was a great success at ADCEO. We continue to not have a "firm base" although we maintain an interest in ADCEO, where all our equipment and costumes are stored. As has been indicated in the past we are unable to use the Theatre at ADCEO, due to the structure being unsafe. However the Camara and Freguesia have recently taken over ownership and have promised to complete the necessary work asap. As a Committee we remain in close contact with ADCEO and are working jointly with ADCEO so as to have joint meetings with the Freguesia to pressure them to complete the work. Meanwhile we are maintaining contact with the Cultural department of the Lisbon Camara to develop their ongoing promises of support, either financial or in kind, that have been promised to Lisbon Players. The AGM has been set for the 26th of March Sunday at 11.00 AM at ADCEO and further details will be shortly sent out. At the meeting we will be approving our new Postal address and Statutes of the Lisbon Players . We have decided to have a neutral Postal address so that should we move from one Theatre base to another we do not have to alter our Registered Postal address. Our finances are stable and we have moved our banking branch so that we have better support. Our site is constantly being up dated and whereas in the past payments on line have been restricted to PAYPAL, you can now use Debit and Credit Cards. So as you can see the Lisbon Players is alive and kicking and active. Our objective in the short term 2023 and 2024 is to provide 4 productions per year and hopefully by 2024 we will have a base which will enable us not only to have 4 productions a year but also a permanent space where members can meet socially and to do other cultural events. Even after having acquired a base it would also be our plan to try and take productions to other Theatres to serve the English speaking community. We ask for your continued support in these challenging times for the Lisbon Players following the loss of the Estrela Hall after 70 years, our base, forcing all of us to adapt to a completely different situation of organizing and implementing productions. It is our hope that within the next year we will have a base, enabling us to organize our productions more effectively. Thank you for your patience. We will shortly be providing more information on productions and the AGM Peter Dawson, Chairman, The Lisbon Players' Management Committee |
